K & S's wedding at Andrew Mellon

Dear readers, alright so we know we are a little behind on our blog posts... but that's partially because we've been working on some amazing weddings this past wedding season and fall.  We've also got some really cool winter ones to share with you later.

For now, let us take a step back to the August wedding of K & S.  This wedding was so fabulous, it would be a shame not to write about it.  For starters, it took place at the amazing and grand Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium.  If you DC folks haven't visited this venue yet, please take the time to do so.  The architecture is absolutely breathtaking and we were excited to be working there again.  This family chose to have their wedding there because they felt the columns and feel of the building was reminiscent of Persepolis, the ancient Persian capital and its palace.

I met with the beautiful bride and her sweet mom months and months before the wedding.  It's not often that clients give me almost absolute free rein to design their Sofreh ye Aghd.  I was humbled and honored by their trust in me.  So with a color palette of antique silver and gold and accents of peach, I designed a sofreh that would go with the majestic and grandiose feel of the Mellon's green room.  Let us not forget that a Sofreh isn't truly complete without flowers... and for this wedding, we worked with non other than Amaryllis DC, the renowned floral company of our area.  The four grand floral arrangements that sat on each corner of the Sofreh truly made it shine.

The rest of the dream team for this wedding was as follows :

Photography - Syed of Rodney Bailey (see below for the amazing shots)
Video - Suburban Media group or suburban video (known for their expertise in Persian and cultural wedding films)
Catering- Design Cuisine (they are amazing and do a lot more than just the food for an event!)
Wedding planning- Pineapple productions

And last but not least, this wedding had a live band led by the famous Persian pop super star Andy (Madadian).

Here are some photos of K & S's Sofreh Aghd.  Our very best wishes to you both!

Pretty in PINK!

So next to white, pink is arguably the next popular color of choice for weddings and events.  There is just something so romantic about pink!  If you are considering pink as your main wedding color, it can be done is so many different combos and styles.  Pink can be paired up with white, gold, or silver.  Or it can be paired with another pop of color like "Robin's egg Blue".  There's also hot pink for those who prefer a more dramatic affect.  All in all, pink will always be PRETTY!

Doesn't this kind of look like a Sofreh Aghd?

All things new!

Dear Sofreh Atelier fans, clients, readers, etc.,

We've been so busy we haven't had a chance to blog in a long time. Not only is it wedding season, but just before wedding season started, we launched some awesome changes and updates. Sofreh Atelier now has a new and updated logo and website. But moreover, we now offer Event Design services. We are really excited about that and have already designed some amazing affairs!

So in honor of our new services, we thought we'd take some time out and blog about wedding design. Your wedding should obviously be in the color and theme of your choice. But our problem is, how to choose between so many amazing options?! The answer? Well, that's why we love what we do because our lovely clients have such a broad spectrum of preferences that we get to live out our dream of not having to choose ! We can't believe sometimes that this is considered working because it is too fun and fantastic to play around with colors, flowers and decor for a living!

Anyway, enough rambling... in honor of the launch of our services, we will start off with the most popular wedding color... white. An all white wedding is always a safe choice... it is forever in style yet never boring! Check out some amazing options for an all white wedding. Keep in mind, all white can still be done in so many different styles: ultra-modern, rustic, classic, vintage, garden, etc etc.

HAPPY WEDDINGS!!!

The Persian "Royal Wedding" of 2011

This year was the year of the Royal Wedding(s). First there was England's William & Katherine. And then the US had it's own sort of American Royal wedding when Kim Kardashian & her husband Kris wed. And finally, we at "Sofreh Atelier" were involved in an Iranian Royal Wedding!

This was the wedding of Saranaz & Chris which took place at the Four Seasons hotel in Georgetown, DC. Our lovely bride Sara is a relative of Iran's royal family the Pahlavis. With the queen Farah Pahlavi, her son Reza Pahlavi and his wife Yasmine as the witnesses to the aghd ceremony, this wedding was truly special. And it was very fitting for the bride and her sweet mom Ladan to request a very traditional Persian Sofreh Aghd. We had a great time designing it and seeing their reaction. It was also a great pleasure to work with photographer extraordinaire Clay Blackmore of Clay & Co. who incidentally shot the wedding of Kardashian mom Kris to her husband Bruce Jennar 20 years ago! Here are some of the pictures him and his team took of the Sofreh and ceremony!

Venue: Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, DC
Florist: Multiflor
DJ: Exclusively Entertainment
MC: Iman Huschmand

Lastly, it was such a pleasure to work with Four Seasons' Tina Nader & David Anderson. Thanks guys for always making our job so much easier!

Gold & Coral Sofreh Aghd

So here's another one of this summer's sofrehs. We tend to have a lot of bi-cultural weddings; where either the bride or the groom isn't Persian. These tend to be a lot of fun for us because the non-Persian side is always fascinated with the Sofreh Aghd and it's symbolism.

For this particular wedding, we had the pleasure of working with Sarah. Sarah, an American bride marrying a Persian, was in every way the ideal client and we loved working with her! Sarah wanted a gold tone Sofreh and her flowers were coral to match the bridesmaids dresses. This wedding took place over memorial weekend at the Alexandria Hilton. Congrats Sarah & Kamran!
